After 30 years in music I now apply my storytelling skill-set to promote human and planetary health as CEO of non-profit Kiss The Ground
I started this list several years ago, prompted by Luli and Rex’s interest, they now realize just how special the music we grew up with remains.
Evan’s 111 Artists is in the order of discovery, when each artist resonated.
Starting in the late 70’s with records and radio, making mix tapes, live shows and CD’s in the 80’s and then a 30-year career in the music business.
Every one of these comes with a story, most of them are fun to tell.
#3- The Kinks
Matt, a lifelong best friend moved to our town in 4th grade, that year, we started riding BMX bikes together and by 6th grade music became a big part of our friendship. We both had acoustic guitars and limped thru boring lessons, until one day at the Public Library we decided to watch a live performance video of the Kinks, called One For The Road.
Until recently I held hope for a proper reunion show-- it should have been the Kinks headlining with Oasis as a strong support act, at stadiums.
#2— The Rolling Stones
I was not allowed to wear the ¾ shirt with the tongue which I really wanted to buy at ‘Oriental Pearl’ in the mall, I was in grade school.
The Stones felt much darker than the Beatles, I liked that a lot…
#1 — The Beatles
My first live music experience was Beatlemania on Broadway. I was young, but I remember how loud it was, the music had a raw & strong punch. Everyone was standing on their seats and screaming. Live music was the shit, I was instantly all-in.
