The Doors (#5) - Evan’s 111 Artists (Copy)

Santa Monica Mountains landscape near Malibu reflecting the mystique and atmosphere associated with The Doors and Jim Morrison

This was one of our last sunsets in the Santa Monica Mountains before we left Malibu in 2015, a canyon over is “the Morrison Cave” where Jim used to hang out, when he was tripping — our family hiked up and checked it out.

I used to argue with my buddy Scott Richman about the significance of the Doors- he thinks they’re overrated.

I read No One Here Gets Out Alive as a grade school kid, my mom encouraged all reading, and especially my passion for the arts. The beauty and intrigue of the South West, the aura of a rock star, the mystique of USC, Venice Beach, the Sunset Strip, the Shaman, peyote…
this was SO MUCH more exciting than ice hockey.

Staci Cosner bought me Waiting For The Sun for my Bday. ‘Hello, I Love You won’t you tell me your name’—this was like nothing I had heard before.
It wasn’t the British Invasion, it happened here, out West, which was almost within reach.

The Doors to me felt less like a ‘band’ and more like a bunch of excellent musicians there to back the lead singer.

What kid would not want to be Jim Morrison?
