I was born in NYC, and grew up 45 miles south in East Brunswick, Central Jersey. Close enough to tons of bars, clubs and everything that mattered later.
Before that, music was about whatever was playing in the car, and my hippie Uncle Steve’s record collection.
Then, RADIO— that changed everything. WPLJ, WNEW, WPRB, WMMR. Record stores, Spin, Rolling Stone. Cover bands in basements. BATTLE OF THE BANDS. All foundational.
My list is in the order of discovery, starting as a kid and through a 30-year career in the music business.
Every one of these comes with a story, most of them are fun to tell.
